'Travel, Roar, Explore' Conroe Noon Lions fundraiser in the works
 
 Conroe Noon Lions gathered at the county fairgrounds for our weekly lunch meeting and enjoyed the change of venue and the wonderful fellowship of the group as we work on many of our upcoming and exciting 2026 events and service projects.  
We recognized Brandy Norris for her move up to earning her permanent “Blue Badge”.  She is a “fast burner” as we also recognized her as a sponsor of another new member Rian Stepp.  
 
2nd Vice President Jake Freeman thanked everyone who gave blood last week.  Sixty-six lives were probably saved by our donations, and the committee lead by Former President Bobby Brennan did a fantastic job getting people scheduled, in the chairs and cared for flawlessly. The next Blood Drive will be in July so everyone can look forward to the opportunity to serve again.  Lion Ric Millington announced that our next Service Saturday will be at Bridgewood Farms on 21 February.  There is some indoor renovation work to do as well as some yard and land clearing tasks to help the facility care for our special community members. Lion Karen Gordy sent several cards around for our Hometown Hero who is deployed and has a birthday coming up, but she ALSO had emergency appendectomy surgery - so Birthday and Get Well wishes from all will be most appreciated. 

Our 2026 CNLC - Dinner/Dance & Auction is coming up and Past President Bobby Brennan in his best TSA “regalia” reminded everyone that the theme is “Travel, ROAR, Explore”.  Tickets are for sale now. Tony Mack the singing DJ will be our entertainment.  Everyone on a committee for decorations, Live or Silent Auctions, is working hard and needs the support of the whole club.  Community Partners need to RSVP for their tickets and for all other ticket sales contact the club office. 

    3rd Vice President Andrew Perry recognized many of the key helpers and Chairman Susan Johnson who made the club Christmas Social a huge success, because this club does enjoy a good party.  2nd Vice President Jake Freeman was back at the mic to recognize the hard-working Christmas Baskets team who purchased, sorted, and packaged food items, collected all kinds of personal care supplies, and holiday treats for 35 of our shut-in community seniors whose Christmas may have been otherwise less than joyful this year. 

    Our program for the day was Mr. Bob Dailey, a Master Gardener, Texas Master Naturalist and a member of the Native Plant Society in Texas.  He is a huge proponent of water conservation and more specifically conservation by use of Native Plants for home landscaping instead of high-water demand commercial landscape plants.  Our area is a convergence of several distinct ecosystems and Mr. Dailey showed that not only can Native plants be a beautiful landscape but are essential to support the local and migratory wildlife dependent on food sources they provide.  Additionally, the Native Plants are much less vulnerable to heat and drought, so when other lawns and landscapes die off, a Native Plant yard can thrive. 

    President Tracy Irvine thanked Mr. Dailey for his great presentation, and he provided a list of local nurseries and reference materials for members to learn more and find Native Plants for their own homes. She adjourned the meeting by reminding members we’d be back at our normal stomping grounds next week.
