VP Jake Freeman stepped up in President Tracy Irvine’s absence to lead our Wednesday lunch meeting while she represents the club at the USA/Canada Forum. There was and is so much going on, we had to hold on to our hats and turn up our listening speed! Lion Sheila Thomas invited everyone to grab their tickets for the District’s, “Bob Dowden Dinner & Fundraiser”, benefitting Texas Lions Camp. Join us on Saturday, October 4th, ready to show off your city slicker Boots & Bling.
Lion Connie Engle announced the “Fall into Focus” a CNLC Eyeglass Open House on September 25th. Come tour the Center and enjoy education, food & fun. Lion and Veteran Connie McNabb notified us that we are on the hunt for a currently serving, local U.S. military member to shower with Lion love this year as our 2025-2026 Hometown Military Hero. Please contact the Lion office if you know of someone from Conroe who is actively serving in the military who would benefit from some lavish Lion attention. 3rd VP Andrew Perry offered thanks to everyone who participated in our first “Reading at Reaves” event of the school year and encouraged everyone to sign up as we continue to care for the students at our adopted school Reaves Elementary. Andrew also whipped up excitement and anticipation for something new and exciting coming to next week’s Wednesday luncheon. Step Right Up to the Greatest Show in Service at our Trade Show extravaganza! All the fantastic CNLC Committees & Events will be represented at tables you can stroll by and find out everything you didn’t know you needed to know! Lion Philip Dupuis had all the info and bubbled over with excitement over the “Annual Clay Shoot” at Blackwood Gun Club on October 4th. We need shooters, station sponsors, volunteers, shooters and more shooters! We closed announcements with a video from last week’s ‘kids on the lake’ – fishing tournament for special needs children, which brought smiles and warm hearts to the entire room.
Lion Rob Hamilton introduced our luncheon speaker, Phyllis Weisbrook from the Assistance League of Montgomery County. The Assistance League does so much for our community that it is impossible to list everything in this space. They provide 7 Community programs and support 19 nonprofit partners in the community, having raised over 11 million dollars since their inception in 1985. “Operation School Bell” is the signature program of the ALMC, which provides new school clothes for over 4,000 students every year in Montgomery County. Additionally, the Assistance League provides fans in the summer and blankets in the winter for those in need, Assault Survivor kits to local ER’s and the Women’s Center, Tender Loving Care Dolls for trauma survivors & dementia patients, and thousands of dollars in scholarships to area students. The daily mission of volunteers is to operate the Thrift Shop, which generates over $800,000 annually to fund the Assistance League’s many programs. Montgomery County is truly blessed to have the big-hearted Assistance League staff and numerous volunteers caring for our community.
