Conroe Noon Lions: Read for a Better Life, Kids on the Lake successful service events
The annual ‘kids on the lake’ – fishing tournament at Owen Park proved to be a fabulous event for about 20-plus special needs children and their families. One of our participants was so excited he took his trophy to school the next day for Show and Tell. This is such a rewarding event for everyone involved so please be ready to sign up next year.
Lion Junette Mihelich updated the attendees on the Vision Screening at the Conroe Assistance Center; where we assisted participants with readers, eye exams, and eyeglasses. There were a record number of volunteers, so it made the process very quick. Next week we kick off our month-long vision screenings scheduled for preschool children, on Tuesday we’re at Kids R Kids and at the Presbyterian Church on Wednesday and Thursday. Lions are still needed so please sign up if you have some time to donate.
There is only one week remaining to turn in applications for our Hometown Military Hero project and we need more applications. Please get those turned in by September 30. The committee is ready to start blessing these service men and women!
Saturday, October 3 is the Sporting Clay Shoot Tournament at Blackwood Gun Club. We are looking for a few more teams to join in on the fun! If you would like to sponsor a station the cost is only $100, contact Lion Andrew Perry. There is a raffle for guns that will be given away, ticket sales are 1 for $10, 3 for $20 and 15 for $100. Get your clay shoot registration turned in ASAP!
The Conroe Noon Lion’s Club supports Benevolent Mission International with funding and volunteerism. This organization sent our club a most gracious letter showing gratitude for our support in helping them build clinics and operating rooms in four countries. The letter acknowledged our contribution to providing critical ophthalmologic care to underserved areas around the world. This is how WE SERVE!
Mike Sproba introduced our guest speaker of the day, Luke Redus, the CEO of Compassion United. His story of service to Montgomery County is inspiring and moving. His organization provides services for homeless individuals, offering them a path to independence and success through guidance and a sense of family and belonging. He has been instrumental in coordinating multiple resources throughout the county in one accessible location. Their success rate in getting people back on their feet in awe- inspiring. So grateful we had this opportunity to hear his story and hopefully assist in his journey of providing support.
