The Conroe Noon Lions calendar is super busy in September! Following our new President Sharene Carr’s theme for the year, “Driven to Serve”, Lions will be reading to CISD students, fishing & playing games with ‘special’ abled kids and their families, dancing & raising money, and caring for our Conroe community!

This was the last week for Community Partners to pledge support for the year. Community Partners help support CNLC's fundraisers, special events, and service projects throughout the entire club year. 
 
Join our Lion Ladies on September 15th from 5:00 to 7:00 for an evening of work at the CNLC Eyeglass Center, with a twist! Bring your beverage of choice and connect with others who want to help restore sight through re-cycling donated eyeglasses.
 
School has started, and Lions are sharing their storytelling and reading skills with Reeves Elementary students on Wednesday, September 16 - 8:30AM - 11:15AM. There was a celebrity visit to Lions Club on Wednesday by children’s book hero, “Pete the Cat”, he kicked off the year’s reading project. Pete the Cat looks strikingly similar to Lion Werner Phelps, who is a “purrfect match” for the tall blue feline. 

September 19th will have 2-Lion happenings! Our annual “kids on the lake”- fishing tournament from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Owen Park next to the old Westside Recreation Center. CNLC celebrates many years of providing a day of fishing, food, and fun for special-needs children and their families!

And our annual Bob Dowden Dinner & Dance, a District fundraiser benefiting Texas Lions Camp, from 6:00 to 11:00 at the Lone Star Community Center in Montgomery. Put on your Salsa Dancing shoes and get ready for a spicy good time with friends and neighbors! 

We are on the search for our Hometown Military Hero. Do you know a local active-duty service member whose story deserves recognition? We're accepting applications throughout September for our next Hero. They will receive gifts and support from CNLC throughout the year.

Club members gathered for our weekly luncheon to hear a sobering and eye-opening presentation from one of our newest Lions, Detective Jerry Serratt, who works on the front lines of one of law enforcement's most challenging missions: catching criminals who target children online.

Detective Serratt, with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, spoke candidly about the growing threat of online predators and the coordinated efforts to identify, track, and arrest offenders who target children.  He explained that crimes against children are no longer confined by geography. Predators operate across state lines, often using encrypted apps, social media platforms, and online gaming networks to contact minors.

"People ask me how I am able to do this difficult work, day after day, and not become depressed or jaded," the Detective told the roomful of Lions. "The answer is that I pray constantly”. Serratt’s father was a pastor, and he has a bachelor’s in theology plus a bachelor’s in criminal justice. 

The ICAC Task Force, was established in 1998, is a national network of more than 61 coordinated task forces representing over 5,400 federal, state, and local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies. Detective Sarratt urged parents and citizens to pay attention and report any concerns through the CyberTipline at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST.
