Annual work weekend prepared Texas Lions Camp for summer
It was another roaring good time at the Conroe Noon Lions Club luncheon this week! Lions were honored, encouraged, and challenged. Our Community Partner Spotlight for the Week was Lion Helen Thornton and Haber Wealth Management. Lion Andrew Perry was congratulated for his PDG Distinguished Achievement Award, and our new incoming 2nd Vice District Governor Wes Carr was recognized at the District 2S2 Convention last weekend! And Lion of the Month, Craig Arrant, was praised for his hard work and big Lion Heart!
Lion Jamie Ballard gave a recap of another super-successful Montgomery County Fair, with over $1.2 million raised for our area youth participating in the show and sale of their animals. Conroe Noon Lions Club Members Buyers Group contributed over $6,000 to the total raised through individual Lions donations and with collaboration of other buyers’ groups contributed $13,000 at the auction. Long-time Lion, Pat Davis, served as auctioneer and urged folks to dig deep in their pockets to benefit our wonderful youth participants. Lion Andrew also recognized 3 committed volunteers with special awards for their above-and-beyond service supporting the Concessions Stand. The Coveted Gold, Silver and Bronze spatula awards were presented to Craig Moore, Helmut Eindorf, and Ralph Perez for long hours and team support.
TEXAS LIONS CAMP: Here we come!
Yep - it's here, Lions this past weekend packed your bags with work clothes, tennis shoes, and work gloves; for the annual trek to Kerrville and Work Weekend. They’ll be enjoying a Friday night get together, work shifts on Saturday, and a Saturday night cook out. Lions’ willingness to give of their time often behind the scenes—makes a real difference in our ability to support Texas Lions Camp!
If you have never attended a regular Wednesday Noon Lions lunch meeting, you need to clear your calendar and join us on May 6th at Noon at Lone Star Convention Center. You don’t want to miss the Spring Style Show, and the opportunity to support our style show models from Bridgewood Farms! These special individuals are ready to rock the runway and bring joy to your heart!
The 40th Annual Golf Tournament will be at Walden Country Club on May 21st! It’s time to get those clubs out of the attic and practice your putting! Lion Geren Sims shared the need for door prizes, goodie bag stuffers, and workers. Registration/flyers are going out this week, so mark your calendars as we 'Level Up for a Cause'.
Our weekly program was presented by Gina Pettigrew, RN and Manager of Cardiac Rehab at Conroe Regional Hospital. Gina shared practical information and statistical data supporting ways to be healthy and live long, strong lives. One of her main directives for achieving a happy and healthy daily life is to go outside. Get your hands in the dirt in your garden, take a walk, work out, and don’t stop moving as you age. Gina said, “Our brains are sharper when our bodies are under physical stress…within reason”. We feel better and live longer when we keep moving, practice gratitude, and smile (even when we don’t feel like it).
